After a countrywide uproar, we're led to believe consumer marketing has stopped. I was in for a shocker this morning.
First thing in the morning, I found this marketing message from Airtel:, 'Thank you for subscribing to Live Aarti from Shri Tirupati Balaji.' The thanks are misplaced for the simple reason I've NOT asked for the service.
The message further reads, 'You have been charged Rs 10 for 7 days...' So, the consumer is robbed for his religious beliefs. It's a different matter whether he wants the Aarti service or doesn't want it. The company has already debited his account.
To stop the unsolicited service, the consumer is told to call up 552230. I tried a few times and gave up.
Will Airtel please reverse the debit, in the first place?
To say the least, it is an unfair trade practice.
