I had my salary account in HDFC bank pertaining to my first job. In feb I changed my job and opened new salary account in another bank as per convenience.
I kept my HDFC salary account open with balance of Rs. 1300 in view of reusing it if required. But from Feb I never transacted HDFC account as it was not needed. Till May I had balance of Rs 1300 as it is in my account (have statement copy of it) then after I did not received statements for next 2 quarters. After that when I received statement for Feb my closing balance was zero.
When enquired, bank stated that they have converted my salary account to saving and have charged me for not maintaining minimum balance in saving account. In reply when I asked for register or postal acknowledgement before the account conversion, they had no answer. I never received any such notce from bank regarding account conversion and this has taken place without my knowledge.
I informed the bank that I had taken efforts to get my account closed well in advance (before this deduction happened) but everytime branch finance kept providing wrong information to my parents regarding closing process. At the end when I personally visited the bank (local as well home branch) and discussed the issue with them, I came to know that local branch had given wrong information because of which I could not close my account previously and then this deduction took place.
I brought this entire scenario into bank’s notice. But on this they agreed to close my account with out paying remaining charged but refused to refund my already deducted amount. When enquired for the reason that why the reversal is not possible, I had simply been told not possible without any firm reasoning.
Being the bank transaction I do not understand that how come reversals are not possible for wrong transactions. I have enough number mail trails explaining the scenario to bank and vice versa.
Request you to help me on this issue ASAP.
