It was utterly shocking and unsatisfied shopping experience
with Home Town, Marthahalli, Bangalore.
In the last one month I had purchased goods worth of Rs.75000 from
Hometown, Marathahalli store, Bangalore. One of the things that I
bought last week (14/11) was a composite video cable (Monsters
product). This didn't work in any of my DVD players. I went back to
the store on 21/11 at 11.30 AM to return/exchange it. The
store people tested the cable and found this NOT working with their
own DVD player. But the store manager and sales person refused to do anything with this defective
product that that I bought from them.
The receipt (cash Memo # T5/7160 dated 14/11)
says that the goods can be returned or exchanged with in 15 days from
the purchase date. But the store manager says this is only applicable
for furniture. When I asked where is this information available he
replied this is very well known to everyone. That is clearly an escape route that this sales manager was
taking. They asked me to call the customer care number that is available in the cable box.
Guess what? That has a California number. Now I need to make ISD calls to make this work. What
useless suggestion!
Secondly, why is this in contradiction to what is written in the receipt? What is Home Town's
business ethics? Why don't they just follow what they have printed in the receipt? What is your store's
accountability on "defective" products? When I asked these questions I got the most shocking answer:
"Sir Electronics products are not guaranteed to work". A shocker isn't? So the customer is purely left to
his/her luck that the costly item that he/she is buying from this store?
Now I am left with a cable, worth RS. 1300, that is utterly useless.
