Block my mobile on the basis of IMEI no

Dear Team,

This is Siva, I have lost my mobile on 13.04.2011 and called airtel to block my mobile by using my IMEi number they are not responding properly and they said they can not block mobile with IMEi number..

I have seen in the so many websites saying that we can block our mobiles with IMEI number..I would appreciateif you can tell on the possibility of blocking IMEI number...
