Airtel
Bills received even after request for discontuation of service

Dear Sirs,

Sub: Receipt of Landline and Broadband bills even after disconnection of service (040) 40032630 – reg.

On 14th December I have sent an e-mail to customer service ([email protected]) to discontinue the Airtel landline and broadband services (landline 040-40032630) with immediate effect as I am a retired person and am not in need of internet connection and also have been receiving exhorbitant bills not commensurate with my usage.

On 15th Dec I received an SMS (on my mobile 9848472623) and, later, a customer service executive contacted me over phone and enquired as to the reasons for my request and later sent the e-mail (to my e-mail id [email protected]). In that e-mail, it was informed that my request has been assigned the reference number 8811128 and the same will be addressed by 7 days.

Though it was promised that it will be addressed within 7 days, nothing happened. Meanwhile, the bill for the month of December arrived and I paid the amount on 5th January. Though it was promised that an Airtel executive will collect the telephone instrument and the modem, no one really turned up till 28th January. In spite of my repeated requests, no action was taken regarding my request. Meanwhile, the bill for the month of January (Dec 26th to Jan 25th) was received by me on 28th January though I have not utilised the services of the landline and broadband. The same day, I sent another mail to customer service ([email protected]) bringing these facts to their notice.

In response to my e-mail dated 28th Jan, I received an SMS and e-mail from customer service on 31st January informing about registering my complaint under another reference number 11039970 and promising that it will be addressed by 2nd February. Meanwhile, though I have not utilised either the landline services or the broadband services, I received the bill for thee month of January (Dec 26 - Jan 25). The bill amount was around Rs 525.

When I got in touch with AirTel customer care (121) over phone on 2nd February and asked them about why a bill was sent when I have already requested for the discontinuation of the services as early as Dec 14th the customer executive assured me that their executive will come and collect the bill and pick up the telephone instrument and the broadband modem. On the same day, I received another SMS informing me the matter is registered under reference number 11151886 and the matter will be settled by 18th Mar.

I waited a few more days and, having got fed up with the inaction from Airtel, I went to the Airtel Bill collection centre in Madinaguda, paid the bill for the month of January and asked them about the method for surrendering the airtel connection. They gave me a telephone number (which I do not remember at this time) and asked me to contact the number. I got in touch with that number from their office itself and gave vent to my feelings and frustration. The person at the other end, advised me to surrender the instruments at the Airtel Bill collection centre. I did accordingly and got a receipt from them.

On 29th February I received an SMS from Airtel Enquire, stating that the Bill for Airtel landline is Rs 968 and the due date is 17th March.

This is the height of things from Airtel. In spite of my repeated requests, since Dec 14, from me for the discontinuation of the service, Airtel has failed to act and over and above all, after all their inaction, they again produce a bill for the services which I never utilised because I have already surrendered their instruments.

This is my last and final warning to Mr Sunil Bharati Mittal and Airtel. If they fail to sort out these matters within 7 days and refund my over-charged bills for the months of January and February and the security deposit within the 7-day period, I am going to take recourse to Consumer Forum for the mental agony suffered by me because of the inaction of Airtel.
