Stupid bank and useless customer care

I have a Barclay's credit card (bearing no.#### #### #### 0167). I wish to inform to you that I was not getting regular statement. Yet I was making regular payment by checking my account online. As per best of my knowledge, my last transactional amount was for Rs. 835/-, but I have been slapped with Rs.25, 00/- bill on account of late fees. I dropped my cheque on 2nd August 08 before due date but the same was cleared on 20th August 08 (18 days later). Upon checking with barclaycard team, I am being told that Rs. 2500/- pertains to late fees. I am completely at a loss to understand this. This seems absurd and unreasonable. Would request anyone have some suggestion please let me know.
