I purchased a pair of Power shoes from Bata on 15 March from Bata shoe store located on New BEL road, Bangalore 560094. Cash memo: 15-03 08/1/0005 01361
For one month I used it in a Gym in Kerala. I never used it on the road.
Since one of them got torn on the upper portion, on my return to Bangalore, I approached Mr. Fernandes of Bata showroom on 31 may with the defective pair. I was told that I would get a replacement from Bata. Since I am a working lady, I could not go to collect the pair for a month. When I finally went to get it on 30 June I was told by Mr. Fernandes that he would give me a call the very next day after hearing from the Bata company which ofcourse he never did!
After one week on 6 July I went to the shop to know the status of my complaint. I was told by one of his assistants, that I could take a replacement for the amount of Rs 999/- which was the original cost of the shoes. I spent some time selecting the footwear for an equivalent amount. I was about to settle the bill when Mr. Fernandes informed me that I could buy the shoes for Rs.750/- only.
It came as a rude shock to me that a reputed company like Bata does not have a policy in place to take back a defective product. Also Mr. Fernandes was very discourteous and told me that the pair I returned for replacement was not traceable. This even leads me to belive that the pair of shoes he gave me may not be an original Bata product.
I refused to accept the Rs. 750/- offer he gave me. He told me that I could do whatever I wanted to, complain to Bata or go to court! He was least interested to even talk to me and was concentrating on other customers ignoring me totally.
