I took a credit card from HSBC in June confirming that there are no annual charges attached with the card. However I recieved my first bill of Rs 785 for the period of 22nd June-08 to 22nd-july-08.
The Bill was clasified as below:
30 JUN Lifestyle Processing Fee 279.78
24 JUN REPAYMENT PROTECTION PREMIUM 505.62
I considered it to be just an error and thought of calling the bank, but due to a hectic schedule it slipped my mind and subsequently I recieved a second bill.
I then called the customer care and was informed that I had opted for a health insurance plan along with the card which I had not. I asked them to waive off the charges but they kept saying that they could not do it as the bill was generated and I had complianed late.
My concern is why should I pay if I haven't used the card till now and also when I had not opted for any plans. I kept recieving bills with increasing amounts and got a few calls as weel to pay my baance. I kept asking the same question, but they were not ready to waive off the charges.
When I stopped recieving the calls I made 3 calls to the customer care and also to a senior person based in chennai, but got the same response from everywhere. I stopped getting calls and the bills, then I called again to the customer care and was informed that the bill is now over Rs 6800 and the collection department will be taking care of it. I called the collection department and was informed that a seperate agency would be taking care of it. I don't understand what is going on and what should I do.
How can a bank loose its reputation for a small amount of money. I am worried about my staus in CIBIL which can affect my future credits.
Kindly guide me where and whom should I approach.
