This is one of the biggest menace in Hyderabad and no one does anything about it.
Recently, I was travelling from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan s School, Jubilee Hills to Urdu Hall Lane, Hyderguda/Himayathnagar area by auto number AP12 V 0722. This was on the evening of Friday, November 12 at about 6 pm.
I ensured that the auto driver reset the meter. After travelling half the distance, I noticed that the auto fare was showing higher than the amount it normally shows. I thought that it was no point leaving the auto and take another auto, so I continued with the same auto. On reaching my destination, The meter reading was Rs. 110, which is about 40-50 rupees higher than the normal fare. Also, the distance reading on the meter was showing 20 kms, which is 10 km more than the normal distance.
I travel this route frequently and almost everyday, and the auto fare is Rs. 70 - 75 maximum. The distance is 10.5 km at the most.
This is a clear case of meter tampering, and what was more surprising was that the auto has a digital meter. I thought it would be pointless arguing with the auto driver since all the auto drivers in Hyderabad are extremely corrupt and rude.
I request the Hyderabad Traffic Police to cancel the auto driver s license and fine him an exorbitant amount. I am still not sure if the Hyderabad Traffic Police would take action or not.
