Indian Railways
Welcome to India

Dear Sir,

My subject line would me "WELCOME TO INDIA"

I travel to Mumbai, India once every year, but I have to go to Raipur, CG by Train (Gnyaneshwari Exp. I prefer for timings and speed).

This is happened "twice" with me.

Last year I went to India from California, USA. and after 4 days I got a ticket to Raipur CG. I was at the platform LTT on time.

At the entrance some guys were deputed for checking (what, I don t understand) They stopped me at the entrance and started checking my luggages. My luggages are having International flight tags already and they new that. They started opening my luggage on my presence. One guy put his hands on my Jeans pocket and pulled my wallet. I has some US dollars with my passport. Three of them watched my passport like they are checking jewelery. They asked me am I carrying gold and ornaments? Am I carrying electronics? Am I carrying other expensive things? They are quarrying me as they are the chief justice of supreme court. Meanwhile the person who pulled my wallet took some of my dollars (I guess those are like 55 US $) and gave my wallet back. I was getting late and I don t want to miss my train. I didn t argued with them and I ran to my coach and in 30 seconds the train started. I was badly exhausted running to the coach with my huge luggages.

I was then Indian citizen when this happened and didn t wanted to take American citizenship but after this happened twice in my own country I felt ashamed/sad and disgusting and now I don t want to go back ever. I feel sorry for you guys who are really sincere with their work but more sorry for those who are doing these cheap activities with the travelers. This was the second time happened with me in the same spot.

Those guys were in khakhi UNIFORMS but I could not see their badges. May be they are GRP men or policemen. Who ever they are, they supposed to make sure for the safety for the passengers, spoiled my 20 hours trip.

My question is because this was happened twice with me and in the same spot. Are these people authorized to do what they did with me??? To check passports and put their hands in anybody pockets and take out dollars/ money from their wallets.

Now I am a proud American. Wish I would show you how Americans respect each other. Specially foreigners.

Thank you and Regards

Raj Chatterjee.
