Traffic jam due to Fly over construction on the Turnbulls road Chamiers Road junction

The 500 metre long flyover construction is expected to take 9 months officially and work has just begun. The traffic jams are going to be a nightmare soon.

I have the following solution which has been already conveyed to the AC, Police (Traffic) Dept more than a year ago. I even had a visit with a police officer to the site to explain him the details a year ago. So, I repeat here once again for the benefit of the AC, Traffic Department and other concerned decision makers of the city to take a quick action along with the Minister for Local Administration on top priority basis.

1. Chennai Corporation and & Police have to immediately provide a short ramp (about 60 metres) from the north end of the Kotturpuram Bridge to the 10th street Nandanam Extension. The traffic could be diverted to the Nandanam extension and there after to the Chamiers road without creating jams. As the short span could be built faster and in a shorter duration, this should be taken up immediately and it would serve a future traffic movements also.

2. Chamiers Road from Devar statue to the above junction should be made two way till flyover is operational in all respects

That is the only way to have a decent construction phase for this project as this part of the world has no other quick fix solutions. Red tape may please be shed to take a quick decision and installation.

Truly yours,
