M S Ramaiah Hospital
An case which is diagnoised TB, later concluded as lung cance

This is a case study, where a wrong medical diagnosis, which lead to the patient and underwent tremendous mental agony, pain, monitory losses. If the disease could have diagnosed in early stages, and adequately, appropriately treated the patient, we would have saved her from cancer. In the month of April my mother has been diagnosed as tuberculosis and medication prescribed for the same. And after five months, August it has been concluded as Non Hodgkin Lymphoma – type of lung cancer. The patient is my mother Aswathamma 70 years, the victim and subjected all sorts of clinical evaluation and research.

The objective of sharing this issue is to demonstrate, the degree of professionalism, ethical, accountability of doctors and hospitals.

a) On 21-04, my mother has been admitted to M. S Ramaiah Hospital for having the complaint as breathlessness, and after a brief investigation doctors concluded as tuberculosis and discharged on 23-04 with medication as AKT tablets. (There was no clarity, on what basis doctors arrived at conclusion as tuberculosis.

b) On 30-05 again for breathlessness, she has been admitted, again discharged on 31-05, with having done X –ray and added medicines.

c) On 23-06, again admitted and discharged on 27-06, without any decisions and adequate conclusions.

d) On 07-03, the fluid was taken from the lungs for lab analysis

e) On 11-07, conducted CT scan, No. 18959, again there was no conclusion and asked as to continue AKT tablets.

f) On 19-07, MRD No. 156284, laparoscopy done and lymph node / omentum No. 1868 AB 08 and there was no conclusion in the biopsy report, discharged on 21-07 (laparoscopy done on 19-07 and delayed biopsy report results available on 05-08)

g) Once, we lost hopes with M.S Ramaiah Hospital, we admitted our mother at KMC hospital. Mangalore on 18-08, IP No. 82121 /090132996 and able to get professional treatment. At KMC hospital, the biopsy report indicates “ NON HDGKIN LYMPHOMA B CELL LYMPHOMA”

There was lot of conflicting issues can be seen in this case.

1. The same samples sent for biopsy – how can we get two different results.

- Is it incompetent personnel / evaluating methods?

- How come the personnel at M.S Ramiah hospital concluded, it was tuberculosis and prescribed medication AKT?

- What is the creditability of pathological laboratories?

- How come so called professionals considering the issues, so lightly

- Is it lack of accountability, commitment, when the report indicates there were no indication / traces of tuberculosis, still advised to take AKT tablets.

We lost precious time, money spent 3 lacs and lot of mental agony for the patient and family, and we are seriously considering, taking legal action on the hospital authorities, sharing this issue with media and NGOs.
