Asking for IMEI

It is ridiculous for Airtel to ask for my IMEI and even threatened me to stop the services from the 25th November as per Government directives.

My mobile phone is a NOKIA 1202 and the required IMEI is already there and I do not understand how AIRTEL issued such statements that I should buy a new phone.

Is Airtel channelling some mobile phones company for this purpose? Or are they connected with the sales of mobile phone?

Please reply and in case no reply is forthcoming the matter will be taken up through RTI, for issuing such threats.

I am asking NOKIA also to challenge this because it will affect the sales of their products.
