Airtel
Repeated Allegations of non-payment

I have an Airtel landline and broadband connection for the past two years. Last month, we randomly got a call from Airtel customer service saying that our check of Rs.1700/- has been bounced due to insufficient funds.

Obviously, this was a shock as my father definately had way more money in his bank account. (please imagine the mental torture this can cause someone). We immediately contacted the bank (Kotak) who said that there was no issue and infact the money has been debited from the account and therefore the check had been cleared to Airtel Bangalore.

Without wasting anytime, my dad went to the Airtel Koramangala Office, and met with Rahul (who I guess looks after Airtel landlines... and I think he's the only one there cos if you go before 11 am no one else will entertain you!). Rahul apologised for the inconvenience and said there had been a mistake.

So alls well that ends well??? No! One week later, we get the rude shock of waking up one fine morning and finding our outgoing calls as well as broadband disconnected. On calling airtel customer service, we once again we assured by Sairam, that there was a mistake and he was 'sorry for the inconvenience'. And assured us that he would re-activate the calls.

Of course, although the outgoing calls got activated without any problems, the broadband was giving us problems. So... once again, the saga of getting connected to Airtels customer service continued (did I mention that the IVR is only in kannada, and 3 out of 5 calls just got dropped before even conecting to IVR).

Now I spoke to Harsha, who very kindly helped me to get my broadband started, and when he asked me if he could help me with 'anythin else', I asked him to kindly explain why the goof ups; he said he was sorry but our check was bounced and so we had to make a payment. (full circle!!)

So, I explained to him the entre story of how that was just a miscommunication and actually his colleagues even apologised for it, he tells me, he is sorry as his colleagues were wrong and the payment has in fact not been made.

Then, I spoke to the floor supervisor Prakash, to make some sense of the mess. After going through the entire story again... he assured me he'd investigate and get back to me.

He did get back to me, with a message saying that 'the matter has been resolved'.

Imagine (again!!) five days later when once again our calls and net were blocked. Once again I called, spoke to some executive called Joji, got through to Prakash, refreshed his memory etc etc.

So, when I confronted him and asked him why did he send the message if the payment is still showing as 'not made' he said that thats what 'resolved meant: that it hads been resolved that the payment is not made"!!!

So, once again, they've kept me hanging.. given a final complaint number (6500360) with a promise of getting back.

I need some answers though:

my number is 41530626

1) Where is the 'bounced' check

2) Why does the system sometimes show that the check has been cleared

3) What is Airtel going to do about the oppurtunity loss, as the net was not working.

Thanking you,

A very very dissatisfied customer,

JD
