Terrible service

I'm using cell no 9849198103 from past 5 years. its validity has expired on 21st of may. Due to oversight it was not recharged up to Aug 19th. When we tried to recharge on Aug 20 it could not be re charged. Can I got my no. activated now? On inquiring customer care they have told it can be activated by taking anew sim card but nearest airtel offices are saying that they cannot activate.
