HCL LAPTOP
Laptop not starting

Dear Sir,

On the 7th of October, I must have been the happiest man on earth. I had just bought my first laptop. What made the occasion even more special was that it was the first thing I bought on my own, out of my own hard earned money. I chose to buy an HCL laptop over other foreign brands such as Dell, HP, Compaq etc for the simple reason that I trusted an Indian company to provide me a product that any other international company can provide. I felt really proud at owning an Indian made laptop and even tried to convince my friends to do the same.

Due to some nightmarish experiences that I have been through for the past 4 months, I am forced to change my opinion on HCL. For around 4-5 months after I bought the laptop, it functioned well. Then one day, it refused to start. I took it to the service centre, ignoring voices that told me that this was just the beginning. I was optimistic that the product that I had bought was of good quality and such one-off incidents do happen. I got the laptop back in 4 days, duly repaired. I was told that there was a problem with the motherboard, which had been rectified and I was assured that I would not face such a problem again. Satisfied, I went back home. However, after just 3 weeks of using the 'repaired' laptop, I started facing the same problem again. Partly convinced by then that I had an inferior quality product in my hand, I went to the service centre to get it repaired again. It was repaired in 4 days and again, I was assured that the problem had been solved and it would not show its ugly face again. After just 3 days I started facing problems of a totally different kind. For starters, I faced a problem of un-initiated sticky keys on the shift key. Then, the escape key stopped working. Some days hence, the important 'a' and's' keys also died. These problems created a catch 22 situation for me as I could neither type properly, nor take the laptop to the service centre and loose 4-5 days, as my all important GMAT exams were just around the corner. Then the unthinkable happened. My laptop refused to start. This was the most important time of my life, as my GMAT exams were just 4 days away. I was devastated. Taking the laptop to the service centre would be of no use, as they would at least take 2-3 days to revert. Fortunately a friend lent me his laptop and bailed me out of the situation.

I write to you because I was honestly happy to own this product from HCL. But now I have made up my mind not to own any of HCL's products ever. I have not even gone to the service centre to repair the laptop as I would have to take half a day off to catch the inconvenient timings of the service centre (9.30 am to 5.30 pm between Monday and Friday).

I think the least you can do is to give me a replacement for this horrendously low quality product that I have mistakenly bought, so I can get a fraction of my money's worth.

Awaiting your response to this.

Hardik
