Indian Railways
Seat cancellation in the train

Dear Sir/Ma'am,

I was travelling from Shujalpur (SJP) to New Delhi on 23rd September from Malwa express. Birth allotted to me was middle birth. I was feeling feverish and was on medication, as a result of which I fell asleep a little time after boarding the train. As my birth was middle and the time was around 4:00 PM, it was totally unfair of me to sleep on my birth, so being a gentleman I took permission from a fellow passenger to sleep on the Upper birth in the same compartment.

TT came and as I was asleep my ticket wasn't checked and subsequently was alloted to someone else.

When I questioned about the same TT was adamant that I didn't board the train from my scheduled boarding station even after confirmation from my fellow passengers.

The details of my journey are as follows

Train number: 2919

Date of journey: 23-09

Birth number: S6 - 29 (Middle Birth)

Time of boarding : 3:40 PM

Boarding station: Shujalpur

Place of investigation and allotment: Somewhere between Shujalpur and Bhopal (between 4:00 PM to 5:15 PM)

My questions here are:

1) The reason given to me was you were not sleeping on your own birth. If my birth is 29 and I was sleeping on 30 which is directly overhead and it is certainly not advisable to open the birth in the day time. Shouldn't the TT had asked for me.

2) Isn't it the duty of TT to check the unauthorized passengers in the reserved coach? If that is the case why didn't he wake me up to check my ticket if I was sleeping just over my own birth.

3) Can TT threaten me to throw me out of the train if my ticket was not checked, even though I was travelling with a legitimate ticket.

4) Why can't the cancelled birth be reallocated? Is it because of the unauthorized share of TT

5) TT was stating that it is my responsibility to get my ticket checked. Half of the time TT doesn't even board the train. Does that mean I have to roam in the entire train on a wild goose chase.

Kindly iterate the rules regarding the same.

Thanks and Regards,

Mudit Jain
