Sir
This has reference to the loss of baggage compensation received by me from Jazeera Airways. My name is Dr. Blanche Barnes, Baggage tag No. XH469013, FLIEGHT NO: J9606, from Dubai to Mumbai. Dated:25th may time of departure : 9.40 pm (Dubai Time) Ticket No. My baggage did not reach Mumbai airport. The customs official duly recorded the complaint on non receipt of the baggage and valued it at Rs 25000 though the content of the baggage was Rs 35000. Repeated reminders were given but to no avail. With great difficulty I received a compensation of $208 though the IATA rules specify minimum compensation as $500 for loss of baggage in the month of August. I informed the airline about the value of the baggage and expected them to honour IATA minimum rules for compensation. Al Jazeera Airlines maintained that their company Policy permits them to give only $208. It is a great loss for a retired Professor, a senior citizen availed their travel facility thinking it is a low cost ticket.
Further, in addition I want to make a note of the indifference shown towards the passengers while traveling aboard. Since they had reassured that they are willing to compensate by giving a free ticket I once again booked a flight on this very same airline for 14th July to Dubai for the delivery of my daughter. I regretted greatly once again for traveling on this airline since the personnel were indifferent to the basic necessities of the passengers. Apart from the fact they do not have even a blanket for an old Lady who felt chill aboard, the toilets were simply stinking horrible. The carrier was for the unskilled laborers who were on their first voyage and who had no sense of Sanitation. The toilet commode were filled with Urine (Not flushed at all) and dirty all over. Is this the carrier only meant for labor class people or some decent people like us can also travel? It would be prudent to mention ‘Low cost carrier for laborers’ then we will be wary of undertaking any trips on this airline. I wish there should be a forum or quality Assurance cell to monitor these basic issues and save the passengers from all the inconvenience. I strongly resist the inhuman condition they subjected us in the name of low cost ticket.
I hope the airline should have some redressal body to look into the matter and duly compensate the passengers for the inconvenience
This is the first time I have lost my luggage and experienced such shabby treatment. I am a frequent flier since 1970 in different air carriers, both nationally and quite frequently internally.
